Lord
Blyton offers to all its pupils the type of curriculum, which
is designed to ensure that they are given the opportunity to
achieve their full potential.
The content of the Curriculum is subject to statutory guidelines,
which have been laid down by the Government, this is called
the National Curriculum. All children are taught Math, Science,
English, Technology, History, Geography, Music, Art, Physical
Education and Religious Education. At key stage 2 children will
have much more differentiation between the subjects.
Some pupils in Year 5 are auditioned for tuition on a brass
instrument and tuition is given once a week by a fully qualified
teacher.
At the present time all children at Key Stage 2 are given the
opportunity to go swimming at one of the local learner pools,
where they are instructed by a qualified swimming teacher.
All pupils in year 6 will be given the opportunity to go on
at least one residential visit, usually of five days in duration.
During the visit they will take part in a wide range of outdoor
activities.
Lord Blyton School is a County School and as such we do not
have any particular religious affiliation. However, our religious
work is based upon Christian beliefs and the children are given
a sound knowledge of the teachings of the bible. We conduct
a daily corporate act of worship in addition to the time allocated
for Religious Education. In line with Education Authority's
multi-cultural policy, other religions are brought to the attention
of the children in order to foster a spirit of tolerance and
harmony in the community. Any parent who does not feel their
child is being given adequate coverage of the National Curriculum
as laid down by the Education Report Act has the right to appeal.
Documentation of school policies can be inspected by parents.
Parents have the right to withdraw children from Religious Education
and should discuss this with the Head teacher if they wish to
do so.
Equal
Opportunities
In
our Statement of Intent we aim to provide an environment in
which all members of school community are given the opportunity
to achieve their full potential. We will ensure that sex, race
or any other general characteristics does not get in the way
of this pursuit.
Multi-Cultural
Education Statement
Everyone
in Lord Blyton School recognises their responsibilities to prepare
children for life in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic society,
in order to combat the harmful effects of racism.
Our Curriculum seeks to reflect the cultural diversity of our
country and we aim to promote within our children, an understanding
of the United Kingdom's place in a wider, interdependent world.
We earnestly seek the co-operation of all our parents and friends
to support us in these aims, so that all our children appreciate
and enjoy the similarities and differences of world peoples
and learn from them.
Special
Needs
All
children share the right to a broad and balanced Curriculum.
At Lord Blyton School we try to ensure that every child receives
a differentiated Curriculum appropriate to their needs.
Within the school we try to ensure that the ethos is such that
ever child is aware of the needs of others and responds accordingly.
The school will provide necessary provisions for any child with
special needs, educational and behavioral, using the expertise
of the teachers. Where necessary we work other professionals
including the educational psychologist to support us in meeting
children's needs. Extension work is provided for children of
high ability.
In all cases parents will be consulted and kept fully informed
where additional support is required for their child.
